Dissected and defined, I Corinthians 15:58 is telling us, “Therefore, my fellow Christians, be steady, firmly fixed; and a great plenty of work will be done by the Lord as you remain within the surroundings of the Lord. Forasmuch as you know that your willingness to stand still and not move will not be a waste of time as long as you are surrounded by the Lord.”
God is doing a great work here at Reformers Unanimous! But let me ask you a question? If God’s doing all the work, why am I so stinkin’ tired?! It is because I remain in the midst of the work. And as I stay steady in spite the buffeting, in spite of the adversity, God uses me! But I’m not worn out from the work, I’m worn out from staying steady and firmly fixed!
Your labor is not a waste of time, friend, if you didn’t quit. We never waste our time when we don’t quit! You quit today, and your labor is in vain.
You may be a student today. You may be discouraged that you keep falling. Don’t quit! Get back up! Your labor is not in vain, as long as you don’t quit. No matter what your role may be today, each one of us face temptation to quit. Be steady and firmly fixed, friend! God is going to do the work for you, if you let Him. Just stay steady and firmly fixed through the storms and your labor will not be nothingness! Don’t quit!
I don’t quit because of what God has invested in me. What did God invest in me? Jesus Christ. The least I can do is not quit because of what God’s investment of His Son in me. He invested His Son in me through the gift of salvation. First John 4:9-10 says, “In this was manifested (or, made evident) the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love… that [God] loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation (or, payment) for our sins.” A perfect picture of love is the gift of God’s Son as a payment for my sins!
I have an oldest son, Chase. Let’s suppose that you really messed up, and for some reason, needed someone to die for you. It doesn’t matter if you have done everything in your lifetime to please me, I would never give my son Chase as a payment for your consequences! Now, picture God’s love for you. Each of us could hang our heads in shame knowing that we haven’t always pleased God with our lives. Yet, while we were yet sinners, He gave His Son to die for you! That is love. That is investment. How can you quite when He gave His Son for you?
Not only did God invest in me for salvation, but He also invested in me for sanctification. He not only gave me the ability to live eternally in heaven, He gave me the ability to enjoy the ride there! Galatians 4:6 says, “And because ye are sons (because we are saved), God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts (or, meditator), crying, Abba, Father.” God gave us His very Spirit to live within us to live through us! That’s the Hidden Life, my friend! God invested His Spirit in you. We don’t have to stay steady and firmly fixed in our own power; we have the Power of the living Spirit of God within us, waiting to live through us. It is an investment of God in me. I don’t quit because God has invested in me through salvation and through sanctification.
