Don’t Give Up, Part 3

I don’t quit because of what others have invested in me. My father, my pastor, my teachers, other church members who support me.  The other mentors that God has put in our lives.  So many people have done so much for us!

Take a deep breath.  That breath you owe to your mom and dad.  Twenty-five million babies are aborted each year, and you are not one of them!  Someone invested life in you!

Somewhere along the way, somebody has invested in you.  But often, because our meditator is broken, we don’t even realize it.  When we want to quit, we don’t see what others have invested in us.

I don’t quit because of what I have invested in others. If this does not become true about you, the first two reasons will not be enough to keep you from quitting.  You must invest in the lives of others!  Countless names flood my mind as I think back to the beginning days of Reformers Unanimous.  Those were the days that I wanted to quit.  But the faces of those people who were depending on me kept me from giving up.

Life’s paths often take us in different directions, and those people that I invest in will most likely part ways with me.  But each one is yet another reason why I don’t quit.  When you have people in your life that you have invested in, you won’t quit either!  You need to learn to invest in other people!  When you learn to invest in other people, you will then realize that it isn’t about you; it is about Christ in you!  That is our only hope of ever looking good; it will draw people unto Him!

I, too, would quit if I didn’t have people under me that I could invest my passions into.  You must find people that you can invest in.  There is nothing better to stabilize you than having people counting on you and believing in you.

In the early days of my recovery, I had a hard time staying sober because I had nobody counting on me.  Then God gave me a girlfriend, Lori (my wife).  Now, I had someone depending on me.  I couldn’t quit because there was someone who now needed me!  That sphere of influence has only grown as God has developed the ministry of Reformers Unanimous.  I don’t quit because of all those whom I have invested in.

Friend, do you face times that you want to quit?  Be steady, friend.  Get firmly fixed.  God is going to do the work through you.  But don’t quit.  God has invested in you.  Others have invested in you.  And there are people who you have invested in that are depending on you.  That is three reasons I don’t quit.

  • This is great. When I read these posts, I am reminded of Spurgen's "Morning & Evening" book. Little meditations that give us wisdom and strength. Psalm 1 Amen.
