Then we must simply wait upon Him rather than waiting for Him.”
Weary? Many nights I may sleep well, but still wake up weary. I, at times, can be physically weary, emotionally weary, or spiritually weary, and sometimes I’m all three. Whew! What a drudgery those days can be! Over the years, I have sought to overcome weariness of flesh or spirit many times on my own, or in my own power, with little or no success. The only antidote I have found is to seek solutions from Scripture. And once there, we can find an exhausted search for our exhaustion. Here is one such prescription:
Isaiah 40:28-31, “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
The above verses say, “There is no searching of his understanding.” It makes absolutely no sense from a human perspective” when we are weak, we can find ourselves quickly strong”. Our Heavenly Father is looking for individuals who acknowledge that they can do nothing apart from Him – for it is those He can empower and be glorified in their midst.
In this verse, we learn that even the young and strong among us will find themselves weary enough to faint from exhaustion. Being overwhelmed with spiritual or even physical exhaustion can lead you to “utterly fall”. Many a member of churches have fallen into deep sin by trying to tread too long in a mere, more shallow sin.
BUT, they that wait shall be renewed! This word wait is NOT the word wait, as if to sit and relax and patiently endure your exhaustion, much less your futile efforts, while exhausted until the Lord shows up with a renewal. No, not at all! As a matter of fact, the Biblical truth of “give and it shall be given unto you” will engender us to the requirement that we must first give STRENGTH in order to receive STRENGTH.
So, we must recognize the word “wait” here is better understood to mean “the SERVICE engaged in by a WAITER!” Those that wait (serve the Lord, not man) shall be renewed in their strength. They shall not only be renewed, but they will receive wings, like eagles to carry them (I believe this is a Holy Ghost filled man, empowered to advance forward without the encumbrances of human interference).
He indicates with these wings we can run and not be weary and we can walk and not faint. That indicates that the wings give us buoyancy that keeps the pressure off our shoulders and places it on the wings of the Dove from above!
Maybe you see it differently, but I believe this verse is clearly showing us that when we do things in the power of the Holy Ghost, we can achieve the most. But when we do it all with our own robust, we will have nothing for which to boast. We would rather need humanistic and fleshly boosts to help us find the strength to boast!
My friend, if you faint, you may be a saint who just ain’t willing to wait on the Lord! Here’s a tip – be a waiter for your Savior!
