How to Know the Love of God

“Do you think that God loves us as much as He says He does? If we think so, then why don’t we think it more?”

Good morning! I sat and thought this morning about the love of God, and the magnitude of it overwhelmed me. It caused me to turn my focus toward heaven and to look at my life through Christ’s eyes. I was created in His image. He knew me before He created me. He thinks about me. He intercedes on my behalf. He meets my needs. He delights in me. He sought me and He bought me with His redeeming blood. Within moments of these meditations I realized, “I feel very loved right now.”

God truly is love as is stated in 1 John 4:8-9, “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.”

Hmmm! “That we might live through Him…” – just that thought mesmerizes me! Not only can we not live without Him, we cannot live apart from Him! He loved us so much and gave Himself for us that WE might live THROUGH Him. Not that He might live through us, but that WE might LIVE through Him! That’s love! And this true love can only be experienced through an intimate relationship with Him. God is the Creator of all things, and by His very nature, He is love. God’s love is unconditional and sacrificial, and it’s not based on feelings. Romans 8 tells us that absolutely “nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is IN Christ Jesus our Lord!”

First John 4:10 also reminds us, “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Remember how the familiar song goes, “Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan. Oh, the grace that brought it down to man.” His love knows no boundaries. He willingly, sacrificially gave of himself without any thought of return. The ONLY way for us to live exemplifying His love is to live THROUGH Him. He is the Channel. He is the Conduit. He is the Control. As we allow Christ the avenue He is due, we remain in a right relationship with Him with more consistency. It is when we fail to be conduits for His love and add our selfish thoughts of return to His promptings that we hinder what He has sought render.

I am reminded of the story of the prodigal. If this young man’s thoughts had been focused on his Father’s overwhelming love for Him, he may not have strayed from Him in the first place, and he definitely would not have stayed away as long and squandered so very much of His inheritance. Where is your heart’s meditation toward your Father this morning?

Let me challenge you to begin adorning your meditations with the Love of God. You will find yourself with an attitude of gratitude, and it will be easier to be filled with and responding in the remaining fruits of the Spirit throughout your day.

To find yourself a bit of rejuvenation from spiritual dehydration, let your starvations engage in a meditation of His adoration. This will produce the dedication you need for a LOVELY transformation. I love you!
