The Bible says in Acts 1:8, But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come…in you? No, upon you. When you got saved, the Holy Spirit came in you. That produces character change (the ability to act right on the inside). That is the Holy Spirit in you. Now you are a different person; but that doesn’t give you power to do dynamic things. It just gives you the ability to live the Christian life and the higher awareness you need to understand the difference between right and wrong.
According to John 14:17, we receive “the Spirit of truth.” Jesus is the truth. Therefore, Jesus is telling us He will send us His Spirit! He is called our Comforter.
God didn’t come to change your life. He came to exchange your life. He says in John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. Do you remember the story in the Bible when Jesus picked His disciples? Do you think those disciples were great men of God who did many great things and were extremely gifted people? They were all a bunch of major league losers. They had never really done anything. A couple of them had quasi fishing jobs, but for the most part, none of them had done anything. For three years Jesus personally discipled them. But at the time of his arrest, trial, and crucifixion, they all fled! None of them had any guts to even stand by Him when things got rough! After his death, resurrection, and ascension to Heaven, you find them in a room, hiding from the Romans. But when the Holy Spirit came upon them (which was promised to be sent in the above verse), all the sudden, these previous sissies began boldly proclaiming the Gospel and seeing countless throngs of people getting saved! In one day, three thousand people were saved under Peter’s preaching! From there, the number of converts only grew.
Eleven men that had previously scattered at the sight of opposition, now stood strong upon their message. God used these men to reach the world. It is interesting to note that, the same men who fled at the crucifixion of Christ, each of them died a martyr’s death. What made the difference in these men? It was the Change-Agent of the Holy Spirit that came upon them. That same Change-Agent lives inside you and holds all the Power of God in Him. You can experience victory… through your Change-Agent.
