How to Keep New Years Resolutions, Part 4

To have a happy new you, you must also…

MAKE A VOW TO OBEY, IF GOD DOES HIS PART.

No matter what problem you are trying to overcome, God will never forsake you.  He stays with you always in the presence of the Holy Spirit.  He will do His part if you will do yours.  We see it countless times throughout the Bible.

To Jacob, God promised, And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest…for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of (Gen. 28:15).
To Moses, God promised, Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee (Deut. 31:6).
To Joshua, God promised, There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee (Josh. 1:5).
David testified that, I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread (Psalm 37:25).
To you and me, God promises, Let your conversation (conduct) be without coveteousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Heb. 13:5).

He has promised to always be with you; the question is, are you with Him?  You may say you don’t feel God’s presence in your life.  When we are comfortable, we are not going to necessarily feel Him.  God’s presence is manifested when we are uncomfortable.  When we are wholly yielded to Him, He will allow circumstances that make us uncomfortable.  That is when we yield to His indwelling Spirit to do what we cannot do!

Jacob vowed a vow to God on the grounds that God would never leave Him and that He would also protect Jacob’s path of life.  Often, when yielding to God’s leading, we won’t see what lies ahead.  King David later wrote in Psalm 119:105, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Back when this was written, Israel was a very rocky terrain.  It still is today.  Back then, they didn’t have flashlights.  They could not travel by night because of the dangerous terrain.  So, travelers would put oil burning lamps on their ankles.  This lamp would illuminate the next step on the path.  Only one step at a time could they see what was before them.

That is how God leads.  His Word is that lamp.  But it very well may only illuminate the next step—and only the next step—for you.  Don’t expect to see the end of the trail.  Don’t tell God that you will be glad to do whatever He wants as long as you see the ending.  Ill give you an ending if you are a Christian today–Heaven.  His Word (the Bible) will be a way in which we can see exactly where we are going.

Unfortunately, most people, if not all, that complain about God’s lack of direction in their life, have one common weakness: they do not spend time developing a relationship with God.  Rather, they hit the snooze button every morning while God is patiently waiting for His walk with you.  He is waiting to give you direction.
